【铁按：布鲁图(Brutus)刺杀凯撒大帝(Julius Caesar)之前，心事重重，坐卧不安，其妻珀雪(Portia)出言相解。寥寥数语，一位愿与丈夫同甘共苦的贤妻的形象跃然纸上，颇有中国古代女子情深意重之遗风，喜之译之。】
PORTIA 珀雪：
I should not need, if you were gentle Brutus. 夫君若怜妾爱妾，妾何必跪耶？
Within the bond of marriage, tell me, Brutus, 布郎且须告我：君妾既缔婚约，
Is it excepted I should know no secrets 君之机密宜独守乎，秘不宣妾？
That appertain to you? Am I yourself 与得一同餐共枕偶谈者无别，
But, as it were, in sort or limitation, 此君之有妾乎？君每有忧乐也，
To keep with you at meals, comfort your bed, 妾当不得与耶？苟此，君之视妾，
And talk to you sometimes? Dwell I but in the suburbs 承欢君前一娼妓耳，非君妻也。
Of your good pleasure? If it be no more,
Portia is Brutus' harlot, not his wife.

PORTIA 珀雪：
If this were true, then should I know this secret. 君言倘无虚骄，向妾君忧当诉。
I grant I am a woman; but withal 妾虽女流也，布氏尊贵是我夫，
A woman that Lord Brutus took to wife: 妾虽女流也，加图载誉是我父。
I grant I am a woman; but withal 有父有夫如此，君谓妾弱女乎？
A woman well-reputed, Cato's daughter. 但告妾以心声，我当严守不露：
Think you I am no stronger than my sex, 妾敢伤股以表坚诚，甘负痛楚，
Being so father'd and so husbanded? 焉能令君秘语错相付？
Tell me your counsels, I will not disclose 'em:
I have made strong proof of my constancy,
Giving myself a voluntary wound
Here, in the thigh: can I bear that with patience.
And not my husband's secrets?
