The Great Mao

The beautiful Shao music and beautiful Shao mountain
Fostered a hero outstanding
But no one knew in the beginning
It's an event of heaven-shaking

Sad China, the country with thousands years of history
Shattered and withered and defeated
People were like loose grains of sand
The country's defending wall  was broken and scattered
Devils  were in power
Foreign troops strolled on roads and in streets
Chinese in tribulation were crying for a savior

The autumn wind blew
From students a hero stood out
Sweeping and maneuvering on and through the vast land
Quickly he controlled the trend

Brandished his civil and military talents
Changed mobs and dregs into millions of strong military force
With red soil and yellow sand
He molded and cast the country's soul and spirit
Drove out the beast-like Japanese
Stranded the grey dragon【1】
Works with clangorous and ringing words
Poems and calligraphy with ink fragrance……

All his merits contributed special light to the history……
In one word
China is fortunate to have obtained him
A great son of the people
A great man of the century

Note 【1】: Refer to Jiang Jie-shi, Mao's main opponent in China. In one of Mao's poem, he wrote,“today I have had a long rope in my hand, when can I tie up the grey dragon?”

育出英杰，

悲千古华夏，
残败凋零；
民如散沙，
国似危城；
鬼魔当道，
列强横行，
苦难中华呼救星。

挥洒文韬武略，
化神州草木百万军。
取红土黄沙【2】，
塑铸国魂；
驱逐倭兽，

注【1】：金风即秋风，这里指秋收起义。

注【2】：红土：指井冈山和中国南方地区；黄沙：指延安和中国西北地区。国旗是国魂的象征，亦由红黄两色组成。

注【3】：苍龙，指蒋介石，毛泽东有诗“今日长缨在手，何时缚住苍龙”。虽最终未能缚住，但将其圈困在了台湾孤岛。
