百忍成金未必真。
无端受辱总伤神。
胸中抑压情难泄，
脑里萦回气待申。

Grievances

The saying that “forbearance will
produce gold” is not necessarily true.
Being humiliated for no reason can
lead to mental discomfort too.
Feelings will be hard to let go
when the chest is full of suppressed material.
When angers linger in the mind, they must be
expressed through an appropriate channel.
Feelings of injustice will likely
cause blood pressure to rise.
Preoccupied with hatred and revenge
can hurt your body and mind.
Who in this world can be completely
free from experiencing grievances?
Try to be forgiving and tolerant,
but keep a distance from mean persons.

As Du Fu ascended the height,
he was touched sadly by the sight.
Leaves falling, gibbons howling;
he felt down at hearing the sound.
Water flowing, river rushing;
he lamented at the turbulence around.
Being sick and poor, he was forced
to give up his cup of wine.
He lowered his once soaring ambition
as he got used to a wandering life.
Years of hardships and bitterness
had enriched his poetic lines.
Overall he had written more than a thousand poems.
Today they are more valuable than a ton of precious gold.

Spring melancholy looms on

I wish to dispel my unrestrained feelings
away with a few cups of wine.
Drinking and singing bring me
no relief but reluctant smiles.
I don’t regret at all, letting my clothes and sash
gradually become loose and wide.
For her sake, I am willing to look thin,
weary, and tired.

Walking out of the Mountain Woods

Birds in the mountain cheerfully sing.
A myriad of trees look vibrant and green.
Having walked across the woods for two miles,
I can see in front of me the blue sky.
Sitting quietly on the edge of a rock,
I watch cranes soaring to the clouds alone or in flock.
I lie on a flat stone feeling at ease,
and enjoy the relaxation in mountain breeze.
When my eyes and mind are clear,
I feel as though the universal truth is near.
Too many human noises and mundane views
keep the ways of the world blurred and unreal.
Where on earth can I find the place
that will please my eyes and mind?
Ah, it is here: a limpid lake on my
left and a peak on my right!

A Sonnet

Bravo! what a nice sonnet you compose!
Albeit your rhyming scheme may not be right.
English or other, which one do you suppose?
Well, who'd make it very well overnight?
　
A car surely needs good gears and smooth clutch,
For a poem, of course, is the proper theme.
Your unremitting effort is admired pretty much,
Undoubtedly, you will reach your golden dream.
　
It takes time to compose a good sonnet,
It also needs talent to do it well.
There is no short-cut towards the summit,
Only diligence could help you excel.
　
The more you write, the better you'll be,
Good,better,best, no one will outshine thee.

译改记：

(1)自娱自乐兄指出此句原译And wants totaste it beforeme有歧义，说得有理。因为意思变成了“想在我面前尝尝它”。不仅如此，原译意思太平淡，今改译为To steal the firstsip from me（来从我这偷尝第一口）。

(2)梦丫头杀过来说：“最后的赞浓香似乎并不止鸡汤的味而香乎呢。。。会不会还可以有另一层味呢。。。”很有道理。诗味不应止于汤味。原译“whata relish it is!（好一道美食！）”是“诗味止于汤味”，改译“how delicious hereis!（这儿真美妙！）”才是“诗味不止于汤味”。因为delicious兼有“美味可口的”（汤）和“令人开心的”（人）之意。
