Tune: Intelligent Flowers
Van Gogh's Sunflowers
By William He
Unblinking yellow eyes, In the patches of amber, The flaming flowers bright blaze. Colored glow of sunflowers light. Green among with ochre, To paint the beauty in a most poetic way. To dazzle with splendor as well. The colors of romance, Magic hues of gold to greet the sight. With music in his soul, In one of these Tuscan fields, Painting us under a summer sky.
A lyric of soaring color and oozing verve. Never think to turn to cold and shadow, Above all the weeds swallowed up. The century empty existence, In solid masterful stroke, Lending a soothing place for troubled heart. Brown and somber shades, The thought discolors, The spirit thrives on in the end. Releasing refreshing corollas, The golden heads as true passion spirals, Wish the petals always stretch toward the sun.

Notes: “Sunflowers”: Some of Vincent van Gogh's most famous works are his Sunflower series. He painted a total of twelve of these canvases, although the most commonly referred to are the seven he painted while in Arles in 1888 - 1889. The other five he had painted previously while in Paris in 1887. “Tuscan”: “Under the Tuscan Sun” (2003) is an amiable film that, in the tradition of escapist fiction, provides a nice, scenic getaway with just enough drama to keep the story from getting stagnant. Watch it for the scenery, and for Lane’s warm performance. Italian Cypress trees A symbol of the Tuscan countryside. The famous trees featured in Vincent Van Gogh’s magnificent painting ‘Wheat field with cypresses’. “Magic hues”: Upon looking at these paintings one begins to notice aspects that seem to flow from one piece to another. The colors are vibrant and express emotions typically associated with the life of sunflowers: bright yellows of the full bloom to arid Vase with Fifteen Sunflowers browns of wilting and death; all of the stages woven through these polar opposites are presented. Perhaps this very technique is what draws one into the painting; the fulfillment of seeing all angles of the spectrum of life and in turn reaching a deeper understanding of how all living things are tied together.
