Life
‘Tis a losing battle we all wage
Said a wise, old man, a wise Sage,
The winner’s name in letters bold
Writ on each life’s last page.
Life’s a chessboard and no more
You make your moves then leave the shore,
Winds and gales and balmy breeze
The curtain falls, the the end of encore!
There’s an emptiness in everyone
When it’s time to go at the end of fun,
When the party’s over and we all know
The race we ran was, perhaps, the last one
But, the longing within is the driving force
That helps to keep us going, on course,
Some struggle, some flourish, bit of both
Faith is the only, only known survival source.
Life’s no more than a sport, your favourite game
The candle of Hope must always be aflame,
It’s the same for all, wherever placed you maybe
Little value in footprints and even less in a name.
It’s a strange battle, full of fun, ups and downs
Dazzling smiles and upsetting frowns,
A strange amalgam of joys and woes
We all know that thorns, too, adorn some crowns
But, for all the negatives it still is
An absolutely, unmatched, incomparable, blessing,
Whose side am I on in this bit of verse
Keep you guessing,
Friends.
