Oriental Spiritual Capriccio
By William He
I. HOLY MOUNTAINS
Tender light of shelter.
Circling the snow-flanked peaks afar,
Mythical beasts to exist here.
Greenish vapour at decline of day swimming,
Stepped labyrinth and thorny dell,
Tortoise alone knows where it dwells.
Wild Spirits are moving.
Shades of gray form stages for the supernatural,
Beneath the alabaster sky.
The russet arabesques in the calm breezes sway,
The Sacred Tree with its lively wit,
Time dries all wantonness with it.
An Echo in Ayakekumu lake floating idly,
And while countless stars pass by,
They more transient than the ray.
Gilding pale streams with heavenly alchemy,
The life awakening through the glades.
Meteorites and neutrons long dissolving,
And bound in the moment of magnetism still.
Through Snake Eyes,
Lulled by hush-song of glittering water,
Someone lap-lapping the heated stones.
The river tossing its head in sprightly dance.
The clouds are at play in the azure space,
The notes of joy from the holy falcons,
Pondering the summits with the snows and rocks.
Splash of colourful brightness,
Alluring the bystander towards the original charm.
The song of diverse life within a whole,
Chasing away all gloom and glum.
II. THE YANGTZE RIVER
Light reveals black mists, Water mirrored with mirage ahead, Riding high crest of colorful waves. The Savior songs to his corrugated white reflection, With special notes and thunderous roaring tones. Nearing the crevices, A moment one glimpses Circe's hand. Midway between earth and heaven, The falling blind ripples break in the air. Pillowing on the tides, Always there this river which is never still, Like the moon's ballad from dusk to dawn.
The fabled Red Cliff. Vomiting the wrecks on its inhospitable bank. Boundless flood in the ebb and flow, Yellow Crane Tower, Floating upon the sapphire floor. Who can flirt with the pigment of his times, Landscapes freezing frame-by-frame. A panorama from the Unconscious then. In the astringent chuckle of rocks, An unfathomable stream here.
Silence of senses magnifies the call of the wild. Following with the lens, Silhouette against the luminosity well. The melting hour, Trickling down from bulrush cupped palms. Looking for the history, Then come the men with heavy eyes. A past-tense imagery, The shadows dancing under the corrugated bluff.
III. REACHING YELLOW RIVER
Rushing yellow torrents,
Quivering within the wave's intenser day.
Wondrous clouds wander,
Shots pan something supernatural,
The story in reality and fantasy in the swing.
In the thunderous roaring tones.
It dinging melodies too.
A Minotaur fiddles in the maze.
On some sandbar ahead,
The slow-sliding reed marshes,
How time has ticked a long take on the brink.
It is older than the flow of human blood.
Chorus that lingers in the ears and mind,
Crystal luster through secret lots.
Bearing centuries' colorful dossier in the stream.
Swimming to a glare of lights at dawn,
Soul grows deep like the river.
When joys have lost their bloom and breath.
What uneasy and what mournful hours.
Whose Aqua of deep woe.
When in disgrace with people's eyes.
Who seeking that beauteous roof to ruin,
Specter shedding scarred fleshes still.
The technicolor synthesizes madness at this point.
Those falling like faint meteor in the gloom,
Brackish with the salt of human tears.
The unfathomable muddiest water is years,
It growing wiser in its ways,
Adolescent in changing moods.
IV. THEME OF THE GREAT WALL
Somewhere in time,
A different scene belonging to a different world.
The Ouroboros writhing,
A solitude of darkness or of light,
Delusive hope leads pale twilight to her dusky eyes.
When the moon is loud,
She enters the the earth-lipped fissure,
Where the living sleep, scattered like dead leaves.
People are wrapped in old centuries,
On the dusty shore of a dried-up river,
The steep old wooden steps slick with neon green.
Grass shoots in the forest,
The ancient hollow blocks sprawled,
Signal fire turrets are going into blur.
Maple's inarticulate ardors,
Meditation loves to dwell somewhere,
Time will dry all wantonness with it.
The flash-back fires rise up,
Across the sulphur-colored bulwarks,
Scarlet stars a thousand leagues athwart the heaven.
Over the impregnable pass,
Thunders fall heavily into a stark shadows,
Into the blue and burning lands with leaden grey.
On irised wings to worlds unknown,
And slowly drifting downward again,
A whirling meteor to fume to ashes after an abrupt drop.
Breezy rocky pinnacle,
Serpent cutting the outer crust margin,
Laying out in splendour in the nature space.
In smouldering eyeballs,
The Great Wall pines weave together,
Butterfly Effect beneath historic skies.
