Six Toughies

Blue Melancholy of Hong Kong

By William He

A veil of purple vapour flows,
In fancy's misty gleam,
The sea spectral camp is seen.
The street light eyes are hollow,
Yet hook one's soul with a single glance.
A parlour of numb nerves ever.
The lattice pavilions rise and fall,
In the cloudy and tense air,
With the strange and mystic scroll.
The Central gigantic shapes and shadows swing.
Playing on a cracked saxophone,
A scotch waters the sorrow down.
Fluttering secret dreams on the sonata wings.
A ribbon of hard sound reverberates,
Despair tugs on spiritual strings.

Ferris Wheel's heart beats vibrantly.
Time slipping as if the world never stops.
Walking through the city of gray sponges,
The preserved butterflies torn.
With many historic tattoos and engravings,
The vigils are musing the obscure,
On the psyche and skin body.
Some having lost their way,
With forlorn and reluctant wheeze.
The heart is weary or alone,
Unforgettable thorns hanging from their memory,
Breathing forth a strain of sadness now.
Borne along by wind and tide,
Sometimes leaving them scarred then.
As if some puppets-player,
Twitching the threads with sardonic tone,
Marionettes try to move and jump.

Notes:
"Melancholy Blue": Lyrics Trisha Yearwood Lyrics "Melancholy Blue" Ever since I lost you, baby I have been here and there Lookin' for some peace of mind Can't find it anywhere I went down to Tunica Played me a little blackjack Saw a wino on the corner Gave my winnings back."
"The Central": The commercial, political and retail heart of Hong Kong, Central is the city's most vibrant and dynamic area. Named Victoria when the British first came in 1841, Central is now home to Hong's Kong's towering financial palaces as well as a number of colonial-era buildings, parks, churches and gardens.
“Ferris Wheel”: The Hong Kong Observation Wheel is a 60-metre tall Ferris wheel located atthe Central Harbourfront, Central, Hong Kong. It has 42 gondolas, including one VIP Gondola with leather seats and a clear glass bottom floor. All gondolas are equipped with air conditioners and communication systems. Each ride includes two to three rotations and takes about 15 minutes.
“Time slip”: A time slip is an occurrence in which a person or people step from their time into another time, either in the past or in the future. This paranormal idea is based on the scientific theory that time is not linear, but rather occurs like water in a lake: rippling around the same point in space.
“Vigils” In Christian liturgy, a vigil is, in origin, a religious service held during the night leading to a Sunday or other feastday. The Latin term vigilia, from which the word is derived meant a watch night, and generally reckoned as a fourth part of the night from sunset to sunrise. The four watches or vigils were of varying length in line with the seasonal variation of the length of the night.
