幸福
时间尚早，天仍未白。
我端着咖啡倚窗而立，
清晨常见之事
在我脑中流动。
我看到有个男孩和他的同伴
沿路而行
投送报纸。
他们头戴帽子身穿毛衣，
其中一个肩扛着包。
这几个男孩默默无言
但异常兴奋。
我想只要可能，他们会
携手扶持。
正是这清晨早些时分，
他们正合力协作。
他们缓缓行进。
天空呈现曙光，
尽管临水月亮苍白照人。
这是瞬间之美，
死亡、雄心，甚至爱
都无法和它媲美。
幸福，降临尘世
总不经意，然而又超越
任何一个谈到幸福的早晨。

Happiness
So early it's still almost dark out.
I'm near the window with coffee,
and the usual early morning stuff
that passes for thought.
When I see the boy and his friend
walking up the road
to deliver the newspaper.
They wear caps and sweaters,
and one boy has a bag over his shoulder.
They are so happy
they aren't saying anything, these boys.
I think if they could, they would take
each other's arm.
It's early in the morning,
and they are doing this thing together.
They come on, slowly.
The sky is taking on light,
though the moon still hangs pale over the water.
Such beauty that for a minute
death and ambition, even love,
doesn't enter into this.
Happiness. It comes on
unexpectedly. And goes beyond, really,
any early morning talk about it.
雷蒙德?卡佛（1938—1988），美国当代著名短篇小说家、诗人，美国“极简主义”代表作家，并被誉为“新小说”创始者。1938年5月25日出生于俄勒冈州克拉斯坎尼镇，1988年8月2日因肺癌去世。高中毕业后，即养家糊口艰难谋生，业余学习写作。卡佛人生的前一半充满了苦难与失望。失业，酗酒，破产，妻离子散，友人背弃，坠入人生之谷底。晚年文学声名渐高，却罹患肺癌，五十岁便英年早逝。卡佛一生作品以短篇小说和诗为主，代表作有《请你安静一下好不好？》、《谈论爱情时我们说些什么》、《大教堂》、《何方来电》等。
