Mixed Feelings
Either in attaining Buddha or immortal I indeed fail;
And all lonely night long, my outcries prevail.
Like bitter fleabane blown away by wind,
And like willow catkins, a fickle name I find!
Almost everyone I look down upon,
Futile talents, I can only rely on!
Devotion to poetry, is this an omen all my life long?
Both swillow and cricket have their own song.
Note: "Chun Niao & Qiu Chun (春鸟秋虫)" often indicate swillow and oriole in spring, and such insect as cricket in autumn respectively. To simplify images in the translation, I retain swillow and cricket only.
