自娱自乐

登岳阳楼
杜甫
昔闻洞庭水，今上岳阳楼。
吴楚东南坼，乾坤日夜浮。
亲朋无一字，老病有孤舟。
戎马关山北，凭轩涕泗流。
Atop the Yueyang Tower
I heard of the Dongting Lake in the past,
Today I ascend the Yueyang Tower at last.
A land split into Wu in the east and Chu in the south by the river
Day and night the entire Universe floats and stops never.  
From my kin and friends not a single word has reached me,
Only I, an old and sick man, live on a boat with my family.
To the north beyond hills, my State has been in the wars for years,
Against the railing I can’t help shedding my tears.

should it be  "by the lake", not "by the river"?  no river is mentioned here.

Thanks for your input. Yes, precisely, it should be 'lake', however, broadly, I reckon lake can be regarded as a kind of river. Anyway,how about 'by the water'?

只是：猜想哈，亲朋：亲戚？亲人？如后者，可能杜甫当时一人，所以才“孤舟”也。
