一片他鄉月，秋光亦苦辛。每從風雨後，來照別離人。

Parting With Cen On an Autumn Evening
by Qu Dajun of Qing Dynasty

The moon over a strange land
Sheds its light in autumn laboriously,
And often after the wind and rain,
Comes to shine on parting ones.

說明﹕關於題目上岑公之“公”字。根據詩人的背景資料看﹐這個“公”不可能是公爵。所以應是對年老者的尊稱。英文中沒有相應的稱呼詞彙﹐只能不譯。

laborious = toilsome
toilsome = attended with toil; demanding or compelling toil; laborious; fatiguing
So no big difference between toil / toilsome and laborious
And furthermore 'laboriously' is much longer than 'toil'

選用同義詞還要考慮在句子中的閱讀效果。有時也有程度問題。在那個詩行裡﹐用LABORIOUSLY﹐
ARDUOUSLY都沒問題。如果把HARD放進去﹐不妥。可把這些詞逐個放進去﹐多讀幾篇
