原文And this hand against myself uprear, 字Beeching至Wilson大都以为是在法庭举手宣誓作证之意。Ingram&Redpath注云：“此数行历来各家解释吾人以为完全错误，诗人不是为人攻击自己而到法庭作证，根本不是在做证（作证）。他是在根据自我认识而为自己辩护，抵抗他的朋友可能提出之冷淡他的理由。他承认他的朋友有权及时遗弃他，但此权利乃是根据一项消极事实，既（即）他自己本无可爱之处，而不是根据任何该受谴责之积极理由。”此说似是。Against在此处应解作in front of.
