Thomas Campbell
                                     
你让疲惫的人们将活计放下;
远处的牛群叫声嘈杂;
农舍炊烟裊裊,夕阳西下;
你把恋人的相思引发;
你永恒不变作现身说法;

 To the Evening Star

Thomas Campbell

Star that bringest home the bee,
And sett'st the weary labourer free,
If any star shed peace, tis thou
That send'st it from above.
Appearing when heaven's breath and brow
Are sweet as hers we love.
Come to the luxuriant skies
Whilst the landscape's odors rise.
Whilst far-off lowing herds are heard,
And songs, when toil is done,
From cottages whose smoke unstirred
Curls yellow in the sun.
Star of love's soft interviews,
Parted lovers on thee muse.
Their remembrancer in heaven
Of thrilling vows thou art,
Too delicious to be riven
By absence from the heart.

Edmund Spenser

它便迷徒之中四处飘荡;
我也会徘徊满心恐慌;

AMORETTIXXXIIII

LYKE as a ship, that through the Ocean wyde,
by conduct of some star doth make her way,
whenas a storme hath dimd her trusty guyde,
out of her course doth wander far astray.
So I whose star, that wont with her bright ray,
me to direct, with cloudes is ouer-cast,
doe wander now, in darknesse and dismay,
through hidden perils round about me plast.
Yet hope I well, that when this storme is past,
My Helice the lodestar of my lyfe
will shine again, and looke on me at last,
with louely light to cleare my cloudy grief.
Till then I wander carefull comfortlesse,
in secret sorrow and sad pensiuenesse.

 我宁愿有你这般坚定;
 发着辉光寂寞幽深;
 恰似牧师履行那圣洁的使命;
 更加无怨无悔永不变心;
 把那平稳的起伏感受终身;
 永远睁大无眠的眼睛;

Bright Star

Bright star! would I were steadfast as thou art---
Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night,
And watching, with eternal lids apart,
Like nature’s patient sleepless Eremite,
The moving waters at their priestlike task
Of pure ablution round earth’s human shores,
Or gazing on the new soft-fallen mask
Of snow upon the mountains and the moors---
No--yet still steadfast, still unchangeable,
Pillow’d upon my fair love’s ripening breast
To feel for ever its soft fall and swell,
Awake for ever in sweet unrest,
Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,
And so live ever, ---or else swoon to death.

       月球的引力造成大海的潮汐。在诗人笔下,高挂天空的月亮成了充满魅力的美女,她控制着大海的情绪:大海涨潮就是对这位美女的追求,落潮就是对爱的失望。
       最后,诗人又把爱人比作月亮,把自己比作大海,把自己内心的情绪比作潮汐;正如大海的潮汐由月亮安排一样,诗人的情绪全由爱人主宰。自然贴切的比喻,古朴流畅的语言,缠绵悱恻的情意,翻译时不可不察。

                   但看那静夜中的女王,
                   发着清辉吸引大海;
                   大海看到那初升的月华,
                   便鼓动高潮汹涌彭湃;
                   当银色的月车愈升愈高,
                   无法尾随的大海再也难以忍耐;
                   那晶莹的浪花沉吟低落,
                   那消退的潮水发出阵阵悲哀。
           你就是天上的月亮,
                   把我心海的潮汐安排;
                   你离开时我的欢乐就退落低潮,
                   心海涨潮还需等你回来;
                   我柔弱的心紧随你来去的行踪,
                   我欢乐的潮汐就这样由你主宰。

        A Sonnet of the Moon

                     Charles Best

    Look how the pale Queen of the silent night
    Doth cause the ocean to attend upon her,
    And he, as long as she is in his sight,
    With his full tide is ready her to honor;
    But when the silver wagon of the Moon
    Is mounted up so high he cannot follow,
    The sea calls home his crystal waves to moan,
    And with low ebb doth manifest his sorrow.
    So you, that are the sovereign of my heart,
    Have all my joys attending on your will,
    My joys low-ebbing when you do depart,
    When you return, their tide my heart doth fill.
    So as you come and as you do depart,
    Joys ebb and flow within my tender heart.

                           《五》

               啊, 月亮

            菲利普·悉尼  Philip Sidney

      With How Sad Steps, O Moon

 With how sad steps, O moon, thou climb’st the skies!
 How silently, and with how wan a face!
 What! may it be that even in heavenly place
 That busy archer his sharp arrows tries?
 Sure, if that long-with-love-acquainted eyes
 Can judge of love, thou feel’st a lover’s case:
 I read it in thy looks, ---thy languished grace
 To me, that feel the like, thy state descries.
 Then, even of fellowship, O moon, tell me,
 Is constant love deemed there but want of wit?
 Are beauties there as proud as here they be?
 Do they above love to be loved, and yet
 Those lovers scorn whom that love doth possess?
 Do they call virtue there ungratefulness?

 你的美丽萦绕我的心魂;
 你的清辉还把它们的歌喉滋润;
The Moon

Thy beauty haunts me heart and soul.
Oh your fair Moon,so close and bright;
Thy beauty makes me like the child,
That cries aloud to own thy light:
The little child that lifts each arm
To press thee to her bosom warm.
Though there are birds that sing this night
With thy white beams across their throats,
Let my deep silence speak for me
More than for them their sweetest notes:
Who worships thee till music fails
Is greater than thy nightingales.
