The Winter in Idaho

Pursing the Pegasus in airflow,

I see ice crystals grow below,

And ice clad the hollow,

Borah Peak is covered with snow.

Cornels are fading,

Maples nod in the wind.

I gaze on the frost knots,

It is a scenic spot.

Precambrian rocks were widely exposed,

Worshiping the Horse God,

A large meteorite fell like a passing fad.

Lode vein began to bud,

Silver overlay was bonded.

Colossal stone sculpture lifts me high in the air.

Here in the gold rush years,  

With a stifled dream in their hearts,

The Chinese miners tasted the bitters and sweets.

After the ups and downs,

They are no longer the pawns.

At Sun Valley,

What a wonderful journey.

I will start the next phase of my mission sooner,

Down the snake river,

Many a pearl is still hidden in the oyster.

The tough get going,

Fortune favors the bold.

There were four thousand Chinese living in the Idaho Territory from 1869 to 1875. Like many Chinese immigrants, they came to "Gold Mountain" to work as miners, or found work as laundrymen and cooks.The 1870 census reported there were 1,751 Chinese in Idaho City who were nearly half of city residents.

Gold miners took advantage of the rich lode, combing the hills and pulling significant gold from the area. By the time the Central Pacific joined with the Union Pacific in May 1869, many of the Boise Basin mining claims were already heavily worked.
