2007年5月14日，我在同济大学建筑城规学院钟厅向师生们作了一个即席演讲，其中讲到：一个民族有一些关注天空的人，他们才有希望；一个民族只是关心脚下的事情，那是没有未来的。我们的民族是大有希望的民族！我希望同学们经常地仰望天空，学会做人，学会思考，学会知识和技能，做一个关心世界和国家命运的人。
我仰望星空，
它是那样寥廓而深邃；
那无穷的真理，
让我苦苦地求索、追随。
我仰望星空，
它是那样庄严而圣洁；
那凛然的正义，
让我充满热爱、感到敬畏。
我仰望星空，
它是那样自由而宁静；
那博大的胸怀，
让我的心灵栖息、依偎。
我仰望星空，
它是那样壮丽而光辉；
那永恒的炽热，
让我心中燃起希望的烈焰、响起春雷。
Look up at the Starry Sky

On May 14th, 2007 I made an off-the-cuff speech in the Bell Hall of College of Architecture and Urban-planning, Tongji University. Part of my speech went like this: Only there are some people in a nation who pay much attention to the sky can they be promising; while if all the people in a nation focus only on the underfoot things, they will have no future. Our nation does have a bright future! Here it is my hope that all students should often look up at the sky, learn to conduct yourself, learn to think, learn to acquire knowledge and professional skills and be concerned about the destiny of the world and our nation.
I look up at the starry sky,
Finding it so boundless and profound.
Its infinite truth makes me try
Try to seek it and follow by.
I look up at the starry sky,
Finding it so solemn and purified.
Its holy righteousness inspires
Inspires me with reverence and passion high.
I look up at the starry sky,
Finding it so free and fairly quiet.
Its broad mind makes me fly
On it I perch and snuggle by.
I look up at the starry sky,
Finding it so magnificent and brilliant.
Its eternal flames ignite
Ignite hopes and spring thunder follows by.
