Seven-words Poem
An Autumn Evening in Shenzhen
By William He
All the best of dark and bright taking come to shore, The lantern trees stand atiptoe to peep at the heaven. Lotus throne's wand changes all to harmonize by now, Mangrove cranes with their stirring hymn to the South. Faery lake shadow with brown veil drawn follows wind, Syracuse's squeak of oars in tune with the evening tides. The star shines and sparkles unperturbed all the time, The burgh is out over the waves to seek its own sound.

Notes: "Lotus throne": In Asian art a lotus throne, sometimes lotus platform, is a stylized lotus flower used as the seat or base for a figure. It is the normal pedestal for divine figures in Buddhist art and Hindu art, and often seen in Jain art. Originating in Indian art, it followed Indian religions to East Asia in particular. "Syracuse": Battle of Syracuse. In a series of hard-fought naval battles in September 413 bce, Sparta and its Peloponnesian ally burned or sank all the trapped Athenian ships. The Athenian army tried to escape overland, abandoning its many sick and wounded, but it was brought to battle and defeated. "Burgh": In Scotland, an incorporated town having its own charter and some degree of political independence from the surrounding area.
