Tune: Melody of Celestial Being
The Great Mosque of Paris
By William He
Plume on a string of glass beads,
Fountain weaving a peculiar tale,
Clusters of wisteria climbing up the walls.
Evening breeze ruffles pool water,
A current of cool air is blowing,
Drawing the hearts to the Divine here and now.
Wilted scoparius haunting humans all through.
Life's tune lost in the tunnel of time.
No future in sight.
No present in hand,
He is frantic with distress,
A phantasm flickers,
Memories cry in his wounded depth.
Every starlit night is a struggle,
Where pathway leads into,
Desolateness dawns upon him.
In the soul of the Muslim,
What Isra And Miraj is,
The way for him is always long.
Sobbing to Allah in broken lives,
The exuded aura illumining his heart.

Notes:
“The Great Mosque of Paris”: La Grande Mosquée de Paris. A beautiful 20th-century mosque in Paris that closely resembles those of Marrakesh. The Great Mosque holds a peculiar spot in the hearts of France’s Muslims since it’s the oldest mosque in metropolitan France. Of Spanish-Moorish inspiration, inspired by the El-Qaraouiyyîn Mosque of Fes, the mosque is towered over by an impressive 33-m high minaret.
“Scoparius”: Cytisus scoparius, commonly called common broom or Scotch broom, is a multi-stemmed, deciduous/evergreen shrub that grows 4-8' tall and features generally upright, broom-like, slender green branching and bright yellow flowers.
“Struggle”: On October 16, 2020, a French history teacher was beheaded in Paris on Friday after reportedly showing a cartoon of the Islamic prophet Mohammad to students in a college class. A Muslim refugee was shot dead after shouting 'Allah Akbar' and advancing on police with a knife.
“Isra And Miraj”: The Israa and Miraj refer to, two parts of a miraculous journey that Prophet Muhammad took in one night from Makka to Jerusalem and then an ascension to the heavens. Israa is an Arabic word referring to Prophet Muhammad's miraculous night journey from Makka to Jerusalem - specifically, to the site of al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem - as referred to in Surah Al-Israa in the Quran.
“Allah”: The proper name of the One True God, in the Arabic language used by Muslims all over the world. Allah is a name that is neither feminine nor masculine, and it cannot be made plural (unlike god, gods, goddess, etc). Muslims believe that there is nothing in the heavens nor on Earth that deserves worship except Allah, the One True Creator.
