七绝四首 咏屈原（Chant to Qu Yuan）

青衫来客

1.
His Inquiries of Heaven touched the hearts of fairy maidens dear
Among them the Shuttle Girl on her rosy cheek shed tear on tear
She whispered to the Cowboy who then steered a raft straightway
Who soon brought Qu Yuan to neighbour them in the Milky Way
2.
His heroic soul never dies and the hatred lasts for long
Even spirits felt  grieved  on hearing people’s sad song
The god  raged so as to lash the water flowing forward
The Mi Luo River since then started running westward
3.
For thousands of years the waves sweep the sky high
And the Mi luo River bears an endless regret and sigh
Who can rank him as un grand homme historical
His eminent Lisao stays on top of the list poetical

4.
In May the cuckoos are being heard over and again
They are crying hatred in voice and blood in silence
Qu Yuan’s poetic spirit would be eternal to remain
But his foolish loyalty is easy to be put in defiance

其一
一笺天问感仙娥，
织女香腮玉泪多。
轻唤牛郎飞棹去，
迎来屈子住银河。
其二
英魂悲失恨千秋，
动地哀声令鬼愁。
一怒天公鞭碧水，
汩罗从此向西流。
　　
其三
千古不休荡楚天，
汩罗白浪怨无边。
谁堪青史邻骄子，
一曲离骚尽占先。
　　
其四
又听五月子归鸣，
啼血无声恨有声。
不死诗魂今尚在，
愚忠易为后人轻。

Yes, this set phrase would better the verse. But it makes the line longer.

Steer is both transitive and intransitive. For instance:
He steered the car skillfully through the narrow streets.
