Memories of the Past at Red Cliff

大江东去，
浪淘尽千古风流人物。
故垒西边，
人道是三国周郎赤壁。
乱石崩云，
惊涛拍岸，
卷起千堆雪。
江山如画，
一时多少豪杰。
The Great River eastward flows;
All past great men's glory is washed by billows.
West of the ancient fort the Red Cliff still stays the same,
Where General Zhou in Three Kingdoms Period won his fame.
Rugged rocks pierce clouds in the sky;
Terrifying surges beat on the shore,
So thousands of heaps of snowy spindrifts fly.
On a picturesque land so many heroes came to the fore!

遥想公瑾当年。
小乔初嫁了，
雄姿英发。
羽扇纶巾，
谈笑间，
樯橹灰飞烟灭
故国神游，
多情应笑我，
早生华发。
人间如梦，
一樽还酹江月。
I fancy General Zhou in the years of his prime
With his new bride Xiaoqiao, he had such heroic time!
In a silk headband, he held a feather fan in his hand;
Laughing and jesting, he ruined Cao's warships as planned.
When my soul visits this old land,
I should mock my sentimentality and say,
"I am still young, yet hair has turned gray."
Alas! Life is nothing but a dream,
Let me make a libation to the moon over the stream!

译为“英雄们的故事、传说、壮举被大浪卷走了”如何？具象的解读，似乎不雅，给人有真实的人被水冲走的错觉。
West of the ancient fort the Red Cliff stays same,
Where General Zhou of Three Kingdoms won his fame.
是否可译成：曾经的长江防线以西，有一个地方叫赤壁。
“三国”只能作为历史时期理解，不能作为一个国家来理解。general Zhou只能是吴国的general

"Gone with the wind" 中国人把它翻译成‘飘’，等于‘随风飘去’，多精简，多美啊，it is the very chocolate for the ears and eyes, hehehe
Now why can't we render "浪花‘淘’尽千古风流人物”into "Gone with the billows'?

Why Not?  Why no good!

Oh, I see, it is all because of that yishi, hahaha,

Yishi的本意是希望外国人通过译文也能欣赏汉语的形式美，如此，必然导致“直译理论”。欣赏汉语的形式美似乎只能通过学习汉语这个唯一途径。翻译做到既能传神，又能完形，是一种理想。
“人上天然居，居然天上人”，谁能转换并保持形式美？

译诗必然有得有失，形美和音美在翻译中最易丢失，丢了怎么办，只能用译语的音美和形美来“补”。
窃以为采用“直译”也无法保持原诗的形式美，要通过英译领略汉语的形式美恐怕不大可能。
