well, sorry, i'm slow and don't quite get it.

in example 4 below,
we could say: Could I ask you a favor?
I believe it's not unusual to hear someone say "Could I ask you for a favor".

So I'm still confused.  :L

ask:
2. to request information about: to ask the way.
3. to try to get by using words; request: to ask advice; to ask a favor.
4. to solicit from; request of: Could I ask you a favor? Ask her for advice.

ask sb sth 是对的，但是原来的‘ask the date of your return' 你觉得呢？呵呵呵

got a few minutes here.

first, i didn't make any changes today.
"ask you the date of your return" was what i put in my first version, and it's still up there.
"ask the date of your return" was the revised version i did later, maybe yesterday? and it's there as well.  :L

well, yes, it does sound weird, and wrong, now i've realized.
just that in poetry translation, sometimes i want to make it simple, and get lost instead. :-|

regarding that "pain" stuff, i didn't pretend to know more.  i never do that.  :P
i do make mistakes all the time.  sometimes i ponder, other times i simply don't know at all.
and i truly appreciate your kindness to correct me.  please keep doing that if you can spare your precious time.  :)

has anybody told you that you are like a walking dictionary?  :D
