登幽州台歌
陈子昂 (659-700) (唐)
前不见古人,
后不见来者。
念天地之悠悠,
独怆然而涕下。
Ascend the Youzhou Pavilion
Chen ZiAng (659-700) ( Tang Dynasty)
I See no sage before me
I See no virtue behind me
I see the vast sky and earth only.
Alone, I shed my tears woefully. (Tr. Louisa)
I can't see any great king
In the past or future years;
O sky and earth everlasting,
Here I alone shed sad tears! (Tr.无心剑 )
The past sages I have never met,
Nor any future wise one yet,
The Universe goes for aeon,
Sadly alone, tears I shed on. (Tr. 自娱自乐)
None of /the past/ can be/ seen,
Nor the /coming /is on/ the scene.
Such a/ vast of/ earth and /heaven,
Compels/ my tears/ shedding/ so keen. (Tr. 普敬天下)
最后受各位启发,重新练习:
Seeing no sage in past,
Seeing no virtue to follow,
Thinking of the earth and sky so vast,
Alone I shed my tears of sorrow. (Tr. Louisa)
