我看过一些关于英语十四行诗的论著，有学者认为彼得拉克体的十四行诗都是五音部抑扬格。但是就我翻译过的《白朗宁夫人十四行诗》来说，却发现不尽然。下面做一些分析与大家探讨：
一、白朗宁夫人十四行诗第一首：
【用 - 表示重读音节，用^表示非重读音节】
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
I thought/ once how/ Theoc/ritus/ had sung(10)
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
Of the /sweet years,/the dear /and wished/-for years(10)
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
Who each /one in/ a gra/cious hand/ appears(10)
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
To bear/ a gift /for mor/tals, old /or young(10)
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ ^ - -
And,as/ I mused / it in /his an/tique tongue(10)[最后两个音部为抑抑扬扬]
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
I saw,/ in gra/dual vi/sion through/ my tears(10)
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
The sweet,/sad years,/the me/lancho/ly years(10)
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
Those of /my own /life,who /by turns /had flung(10)

小结：虽然每行都是五音部，但并非都是抑扬格。第五行最后两个音部为抑抑扬扬,也算抑扬格；第十一行为11个音节，第三个音部为抑抑扬格； 第十二行为11个音节，第四个音部为抑抑扬格。
再说韵脚，这首彼得拉克体十四行诗的韵律为abba,abba,cdc,dcd，但是move[mu:v]、strove[strəʊv]和love[lʌv]实际上是假韵。呵呵，看来伟大的白朗宁夫人也用假韵啊。
二、白朗宁夫人十四行诗第二首
【用 - 表示重读音节，用^表示非重读音节】：
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ ^
But on/ly three/ in all/ God's u/niverse(10)
^ - ^ - ^ ^ - ^ - ^ -
Have heard/this word/thou hast said,--/Himself,/beside(11)[第三个音部抑抑扬]
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
Thee spea/king, and/ me liste/ning! and /replied(10)
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
One of /us ..._that_/was God,/ .../and laid /the curse(10)
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ ^ - ^ -
So dark/ly on /my eye/lids, as to/ amerce(11)[第四个音部为抑抑扬]
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ ^ -
My sight/ from see/ing thee,/--that if /I had died,(11)[第五音节抑抑扬]

小结：第二行的第三个音部为抑抑扬格； 第五行的第四个音部为抑抑扬格；第六行的第五个音部为抑抑扬格；第十三行是12个音节，六个音部，可见全部是五音部的说法不成立。
三、白朗宁夫人十四行诗第三首：

Unlike/ are we,/ unlike,/ O prin/cely Heart[hɑ:t]!(11)[第五音部抑抑扬格]

Unlike/ our /uses and/ our /destinies['destiniz](11)[第二、四音部均为扬抑格；第五音部扬抑抑格]
-^ - ^ ^ ^ ^ - ^ - ^ -
Our /minis/tering /two an/gels look /surprise[sə'praiz]（12）[六个音部，第一、二音部均为扬抑格；第三音部为抑抑格]
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
On one/ ano/ther,as/ they strike /athwart[ə'θwɔ:t](10)
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
Their wings/ in pa/ssing. Thou,/ bethink /thee, art(10)
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ ^
A guest/ for queens/ to so/cial pa/geantries['pædʒəntri:z],(10)[最后一个音部为抑抑格]

With gages/ from a /hundred /brighter eyes[aiz](9)[四音部，第三音部扬抑格；第四音部为抑抑扬格]

The chri/sm is /on thine/ head,--on /mine, the dew,(11)[最后一个音部为抑抑扬格]

And Death /must dig /the level /where these/ agree(10)
小结：第一行第五音部抑抑扬格;第二行第二音部为扬抑格；第四音部为扬抑格；第五音部为扬抑抑格；第三行12音节六音部，第一、第二音部为扬抑格；第三音部为抑抑格；第六行第五音部为抑抑格； 第七行为9个音节四个音部，第三音部为扬抑格；第四音部为抑抑扬格；第八行第二音部为扬抑格；第五个音部为抑抑扬格； 第十一行第三音部为抑抑格；第四音部为扬抑格；第五音部为扬抑抑格；第十三行第五音部为抑抑扬格。
再说韵脚，这首彼得拉克体十四行诗的韵律为abba,abba,cdc,dcd，但是 a 韵中Heart[hɑ:t]、athwart[ə'θwɔ:t]、art和part，很明显athwart[ə'θwɔ:t]是假韵。
四、白朗宁夫人十四行诗第五首
【用 - 表示重读音节，用^表示非重读音节】：
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ ^
I lift/ my hea/vy heart/ up so/lemnly[ˈsɔləmlɪ](10)[第五音部为抑抑格]
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
As once/ Elec/tra her/ sepul/chral urn,(10)
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ ^
And, loo/king in /thine eyes,/ I o/verturn(10)
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
The a/shes at /thy feet. /Behold /and see[si:](10)
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
What a /great heap /of grief /lay hid/ in me[mi:](10)
^ - ^ - ^ - - ^ ^
And how /the red /wild sparkles/ dimly burn(9)[四个音部，第四音部为扬抑抑格]
^ ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
Through the a/shen grey/ness. If /thy foot/ in scorn(11)[第一音部为抑抑扬格]

The grey/ dust up,/ ...those lau/rels on /thine head,(10)
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
O my/ Belo/ved, will / not shield /thee so,(10)
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
That none/ of all /the fires /shall scorch /and shred(10)
^ - ^ - ^ - ^ - ^ -
The hair /beneath. /Stand fur/ther off /then! go.(10)
小结：第一行最后一个音部为抑抑格；第六行四个音部，最后一个音部为扬抑抑格；第七行第一个音部为抑抑扬格；第八行最后一个音部为抑抑格。
再看韵脚，这首彼得拉克体十四行诗的韵律为abba,abba,cdc,dcd，a 韵中的几个单词solemnly[ˈsɔləmlɪ]、see[si:]、me[mi:]和utterly[ˈʌtəli]是不是完全韵？如果是，那么hasty 和 sadly，so和sorrow，easily和misery 就也应该可以，不能算假韵吧？呵呵。
结论：通过以上分析可以看出，白朗宁夫人的十四行诗并非都是五音部抑扬格，大部分是五音部这是事实（但是五音部11个音节的情况很多），而且常会出现四音部、六音部的诗行也是事实；抑扬格占多数也不假，但是抑抑格、扬抑格、扬扬格、扬抑抑格、抑抑扬格也不少见。所以说，“彼得拉克体的十四行诗都是五音部抑扬格”的说法不成立。而且，这位伟大的诗人也有用假韵的时候。
