扁舟子，就是“游子”。“浪子”也含有“游子”之意，倒也不算错。
但是将“扁舟子”翻译成prodigal son是绝对错误的。海外君的解释“這裡取其本義﹐而不及故事”是站不住脚的。英语读者不会买你的账。
退一万步说，即使你的说法能成立，诗的语言贵在简洁，还是应该译成wanderer。

江天一色无纤尘，皎皎空中孤月轮。
江畔何人初见月？江月何年初照人？

Skies and river are of the same color without dust,
Save for the solitary moon in the sky is so august.
So, first see the moon at riverside, wonder who can.
Since when did the moon over the river shine on man?

恐怕不妥：

itinerant：an itinerant laborer who works for a short time in various places


巡回者(工作)(如巡回传教士; 巡回法官; 行商) ; 时而工作时而游荡的人

浪子其实就是个浪迹天涯的人，how about  'a wayfarer'?

不知江月待何人，但见长江送流水。

Human life, generation after generation, goes on and on,
High over the river, year by year, lo, the moon's the same icon.
How could anyone know whom the moon awaits over the river ?
Have seen instead the Yangzte River dispatche the flowing water.
