This folk description of Sikhote-Alin is absolutely true. It is really mountain by mountain, mountain upon mountain, and mountain beyond mountain! The peaks tower into the clouds; the treetops pierce the sky. There not only roars of tigers and leopards, yelps of bears and bleats of deer can be heard, but also wild boars in herds and dzerens in groups can be seen. No sky can one see when looking up in the forest; no ground can one see when looking down at the mountaintop. If a bevy of brutal bandits hide in this vast forest, how and where could they be found?

This is a folk saying about Mount Old-Lord. You should see how true it is- just imagine here the mountains following mountains, mountains overlapping with mountains, and mountains beyond mountains! They pierce into clouds and numerous trees towering split the sky. In such a forest ocean with tigers and bears roaring, wild boars and dzerens flocking, leopards howling and deer crying everywhere, you can’t even find the heaven from any place on the ground, nor the earth from any peak of the mountain, let alone a handful of atrocious bandits who have merged in the depth of this vastness! God knows where they are!

1﹐自娛君譯文﹕基本可以。有些個別問題可以討論。原文裡的“不假”﹐實際上並
非真假之意﹐應該是說得不錯。所以用FALSE不太確切。當然可以正過來說TRUE。

原文裡“虎嘯熊嗷，野豬成群，豹哮鹿鳴，黃羊結隊”。是聽見﹑看見﹑聽見﹑看
見﹐的交錯描述。譯文裡把聽見和看見的分別歸在一起﹐如果不對照閱讀﹐在英文
裡是沒關係的。但用GROAN形容鹿叫﹐太厲害了。古狗上可找到BELL。羊叫是BLEAT。


不能總用逗號。YET前可用分號。THUS前可用句號。在THUS句裡﹐沒有主要謂語動詞。
請查。又﹐BEVY基本用來描述一群女士。

2﹐無心劍君譯文﹕
O用在此不妥。在一個陳述句後﹐突然來個驚嘆句﹐讀上去連接不好。可說IT  WAS
REALLY 。。。

一般以ONE作主語的句子﹐用被動式表達較好。其他見上。

3﹐鐵冰譯文﹕
第一句比另二譯文確切。另二譯文中漏了句首“這是”二字。YOU  SHOULD  SEE﹖
在這種一般性描述裡﹐放個第二人稱不妥。用HOW  TRUE  IT  IS就夠了。

just imagine﹖這裡的描述應該是實際可見到的情況﹐所以不需just imagine。

第二個YOU﹐改用NO  ONE較好。後半所採用的結構可取。

Ok, I revised it in terms of your input.

The description of the Laoyeling* by word of mouth is absolutely right. There are mountains by mountains, mountains upon mountains and mountains beyond mountains. Those peaks are so high that prod into clouds; the treetops are so tall as to pierce the sky.  Over there it echos tigers' roar and bears' growl; the wild boars run in herds and the antelopes gallop in groups; one can also hear leopards howl and deer call. Deep in the woods, one looks up and sees no sky but trees. If looking down from any mountaintop, the land is nowhere in sight. if a gang of bloodthirsty bandits hides in such a vast woodland, how could one easily hunt them down?

谢谢逸士的批评，言之有理。我用第二人称，是采用说书人的口吻。just imagine是让听者、读者去想象，因为他们并非置身于林海雪原中。

当然这样译法是否妥当，还要看上下文，全文风格衔接必须一致。

What widely circulates among local folks regarding Laoyeling Peak is absolutely true. There are mountains by mountains, mountains upon mountains, and mountains beyond mountains. The lofty peaks prod into clouds; the towering trees pierce the sky. Over there tigers roar and bears growl; wild boars run in herds and antelopes gallop in groups; leopards howl and deer bellow. Deep in the woods, one looks up and sees not a glimpse of the sky; from the mountain tops, not a patch of the ground below is in sight.  If a gang of murdering brutes hides in such a vast forest, how on earth can they be tracked down?
