很纳闷，为何总喜欢盯着他人的瑕疵不放呢！为何不喜欢欣赏他人的亮点呢？

1，“非同寻常的主张，要有非同寻常的证据”，这是学术研究和学术批评的一条原则。钱钟书是英文专家，曾在西南联大教过英文。说钱钟书不懂thou, thee, thine的用法，这是一个非同寻常的主张，必须用非同寻常的证据来支撑。搂主文中出示的证据远远不够，最多能说明钱一时疏忽或者“不够严谨”罢了。

2，在学术研究上，“孤证不足为凭”是学界公认的另一条原则。搂主文中只能给出一条“证据“，不能支撑任何结论。如果能找到2处或3处以上钱钟书用错thou的例子，那么再说他不懂不迟。

3，早就有人指出过钱钟书的记忆并非是绝对精确无误的。许渊冲在他的回忆录里举过钱为大学生们解答疑问时记错课文的例子。记忆力惊人就不会出错吗？要比记忆力，谁比得过电脑？但就连电脑也都会有出错的时候。仅仅因为钱太有名，我们就应该要求他的记忆力永无差错吗？凭什么？这种苛求，本身就是把钱当神看待的另一种表现。

The Boasting Traveler


  A MAN who had traveled in foreign lands boasted very much, on
returning to his own country, of the many wonderful and heroic
feats he had performed in the different places he had visited.
Among other things, he said that when he was at Rhodes he had
leaped to such a distance that no man of his day could leap
