When the scorching sun's high at noon,         当正午的烈日挂在天上

Through the fields, over the ditches,               穿越田野，跨过沟渠
Up the slope, over the summit,                        爬上山坡，翻过峰顶
Down the hill, to the valley,                             走下丘岗，来到低谷

Into the woods, through the glade,                   进入森林，经过空地
Not in search of ores, nor of gems,                   不是探寻矿藏宝石
Neither of buried treasures,                               不是去追求埋藏的珍宝
Which everyone seeks,                                      这些是每个人想得到的
But of the element--H2O;                                  而是寻找这元素：二氢化氧
Not to quench my thirst,                                     不是去化解我的干渴
Nor to wash my hands or face,                           不是去清洗我的手和脸
But to water a withering rose,                             而是去浇灌一支枯萎的玫瑰
