直译法似乎没有释放诗意。愚见。

hehehe, two entirely different schools of thoughts in regard to translation, my dear friend.
逸士：诗人说什么，你就译什么，别把读者当白痴。:P

无心剑

呵呵，直译好就直译，意译好就意译，没有必要将两者搞得水火不相容啊！

直译注重形似，意译注重意似。倘若形似意合，那么用直译即可。倘若形似意不合，不妨用意译来舍形保意。（此处的“形”可能包含了你所说的意象吧。有时为了更好地表达意思，还得牺牲一点形式或意象。）

Thus in gentle spring it takes place,
Creeping into night with the breeze,
To silently moisten flowers and trees.
Wild paths and clouds drown in night,
The lamp of river boat is the only light.
At dawn the dews roll on flowers red,
I see the Brocade Town in a flowerbed.

自娛君老說我喜歡作者怎麼說就怎麼譯。這裡我為什么把“發生”譯成HAPPEN呢﹖因
為英文中沒人用過RAIN  HAPPENS。這不符合英文習慣用法。所以翻譯也得雙向考慮。
關於直譯意譯﹐我有文章探討過。現在已沉底了。新來的兩位可以釣上來探討。

自娱自乐

好雨知時節， 當春乃發生。隨風潛入夜， 潤物細無聲。

To arrive when spring comes round.
It drops in quietly with the wind at night,
To dampen everything without a sound.
Country road and cloud are cloaked in dark,
Nothing visible on river but a boat's light.
At dawn I see something wet and red spark,
O, the Jinguan Town drowns in flowers bright.

不把诗中的“发生”译成happen是对的，但海外逸士的一番“理由”反映了他古文不过关：古诗里的“发生”，其实是两个词“发”、“生”，二者是近义词，都是“（植物）萌发、生长”之意，此处可理解为润物细无声的春雨促使草木萌发生长。这跟现代汉语里“发生事故”中的“发生”（即happen）根本不是一回事。
希望逸士好好复习古文，不要辜负了剑兄和娱乐兄给您的“精通古文”的美誉。
