To ZYZL and Loon, and ...
Thank you, guys, for all your refreshing and enlightening ideas. This is definitely one of the ways to get out of the tight corner where you are stuck.
What I am turning in my mind is that this particular poem shines its spcial sheen in the application of puns, using computer and internet terms to indicate the metaphorical meaning. This line is one of the examples of this skill.
The word "site", when I used it in the first place, has a pseudo-homophone effect, which can generate a possible association with "sight". As I discussed this earlier with Mr Qing Shan, in this context of IT language throughout the entire piece, one would probably not misunderstand it as a location/venue/place. "profile" acutally narrows down the concept of a wide collection of 1)over-all picture, (image) 2) the text contents, (intangible personal character); 3) sound, etc. in these "memory pages" of someone, since it is more specific than "sites". This is what I don't like. But what I like about this word is that it carries the artistic elements of a painting, a portrait, and yet, in ambiguity. You can only have a rough outline, a shadowed picture, part of her face instead of a complete one with her facing towards you.
Anyway, my point is, I feel reluctant in giving up a pun here especially when it is a key feature of this poem. |
