River Snowbound
O'er myriad mountains many a bird is of its flight deprived.
Upon endless trails e'en a human is with his trace unfound.
While the old man, in both a palm-bark cape and a bamboo hat,
Sits on the lone boat, and angles on the cold river snowbound.
Snow on River
In hills upon the hills no bird in flight.
From trail to trail no human trace in sight.
On boat, a straw-cloak'd man, alone and old,
Is fishing mid the snowy river cold.
River Snow
A thousand hills—no bird’s flight.
A million trails—no man’s trace.
Single boat. Straw poncho. An old man
Fishing by himself: ice river, snow.
A thousand hills--the birds all go.
A million trails--no trace of man.
The boat. Bamboo-leaved cape. A man
In fishing hour: ice river, snow.
Fishing in Snow
From hill to hill no bird in flight,
From path to path no man in sight.
A straw-cloak'd man afloat, behold!
Is fishing snow on river cold.
