【汉诗英译】柳宗元《江雪》试译

我认为，英译《江雪》，最好是意象组图。因参详了西方和各位佳译，我修改如下：
                 River Snow
A thousand hills—no bird’s flight.
A million trails—no man’s trace.
Single boat. Straw poncho. An old man
Fishing by himself: ice river, snow.

slur of "million"

如果换成格律：
A thousand hills--the birds all go.
A million trails--no trace of man.
The boat. Bamboo-leaved cape. A man
In fishing hour: ice river, snow.

这首诗比较特殊，无论用英文句子怎么凑，也不能凑出那种境界来，所以可“格外开恩”，外国读者也不会因为这首译诗不符格律，而对中国格律诗产生曲解，相反，他们会陶醉于这种中国特有的独韵。如果要格律，我个人比较倾向许渊冲先生的版本。

Well, I reckon it derives from French...loon and wannfeng, I think you may consult Mr.Steele's  book as well and see what he will say.

中国象形文字特有的意境美，是其它语言要妒忌死的。自认为汉语是世上最诗意的文字。
这难怪Ezra Pound先生汲取了唐诗的精髓所创立的意象派诗歌无法在西方土地上生根发芽，我们闻不出意象的芬芳，源于它们的文字没有意境的土壤。（个人自豪的扯淡）

想法和切入角度是好的。但

不喜欢 the birds all go, 实际上是已经 all gone 了。
不懂 In fishing hour。
另外，这不能算是原创吧？

I'm not expert on pronunciation. Here is the link with the poem read. "why" and "envy" just sound like modern English. That means they don't rhyme. Here you go and have a listen.
